Until four months ago, I knew nothing about dentists, the toxic substances they use, or the chronic health-damaging infections they cause. But last week I was in Dr. Lagos’s dental chair having the trash taken out of my mouth. Here is the story of how I woke up and took action. If you care about your health, you will have a careful look inside your mouth as well.

The start of my journey was reading Toxic Teeth: How a Biological (Holistic) Dentist Can Help You Cure Cancer, Facial Pain, Autoimmune, Heart, and Other Disease Caused By Infected Gums, Root Canals, Jawbone Cavitations, and Toxic Metals by J.M. Swartz M.D. et al. (2019). Dr. Swartz had been Dr. Lagos’s patient and heavily recommended him.

I was horrified by Swartz’s portrayal of dentistry, so when I visited my Los Angeles dentist for tooth cleaning a few weeks later, I asked him how many mercury amalgams I had. After clicking on my teeth, he replied, “Seventeen.” I nearly fell out of the chair. So I sent Dr. Lagos my mouth X-ray and a deposit. He was so busy that he could not see me until mid August.

I continued studying, and my paranoia meter was soon flashing red. I realized that even stepping into dental offices is hazardous. Even if I was just there for tooth cleaning, the jackass in the next room might be drilling without the protections used by biological dentists. I might be inhaling mercury and other poisons.

I eventually concluded that out-of-control dentistry operating for profit was responsible for a double-digit percentage of all US health problems. If this sounds far-fetched, read my recent post about Dr. Gammal’s book HERE. You will find my claim is likely conservative.

Meanwhile, after a six weeks wait, I saw a neurologist about the tremor I had had for a decade.

The most common diseases her specialty sees are Alzheimer’s (AD) and Parkinson’s (PD), and she immediately told me I had PD. She asked me if I had started falling yet (no!). This reminded me of a time when I used an ammunition storage bag as an airplane carry-on. I had mistakenly left a couple of shotgun shells in a zippered pocket, and security asked me if I had been arrested yet (not yet!).

Neurologists diagnose conditions, but their treatments are dictated by Pharma. I asked her about the holistic remedies I wrote about in a recent post, and she said none of it worked. When she apologized for the appointment delay, I told her it was no problem. I knew she had no therapy that could cure or even slow the progress of PD.

I jacked up the pace of my usual manic research. I learned that pesticides, toxic metals, and electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are closely linked to brain degeneration syndromes. These include Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, autism, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Doctors label these conditions “idiopathic” because neither their causes nor remedies have ever been acknowledged. They call themselves idiots when they use this word.

Pharma makes no money on cures or inexpensive treatments, so they ignore or even disparage them. I show examples of this in my recent posts.

Back to Dr. Lagos

I evaluated Dr. Lagos carefully, for I knew I had little recourse if I had problems in another country. I am a seasoned observer of doctors and medical offices and had a brief tenure as a surgical center inspector. I had been in hundreds of surgeries and clinics as a guest. Lagos’s website, his reviews, his credentials, Dr. Swartz’s perceptions, and the office documents were top-notch. My later experience confirmed these impressions.

Dr. Lagos was trained by Hal Huggins, DDS, the pioneer of biological dentistry who spoke against the use of dental amalgam fillings and other unsafe procedures. He is considered the grandfather of the holistic dental movement.

Lagos is a member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) and has a wall of diplomas. The following are the ones that count.

Dr. Lagos recommended an important precaution. He told me to get the Biocomp laboratories blood testing to see if I was sensitive to dental materials. It showed that I was reacting to several metals including mercury and aluminum.

I was at his office for five days

For the first four, I had intravenous sedation for up to six hours a day. It was tolerable but not my idea of a great time. I had no pain during or after surgery except a few days of ache after the dentist pulled a dead wisdom tooth on the last day.

Here is what the procedure looked like, and that is me under there. It may be hard to see, but I was wearing nasal oxygen. They had a space blanket over me to keep me warm and to provide full-body protection during amalgam removal. I received intravenous vitamin C (?75 mg) on each of the four days I was treated.

The anesthesiologist is checking his stocks, but they do that everywhere.

Sample of my before/after photos from my mouthful of amalgams.

Los Angeles dentists may charge thousands to fix a single tooth. My total fees were less than $7000. The Quartz, the five star hotel next door, cost $150 a night.

It is now three weeks later

I have had no dramatic recovery yet, but my tremors and tinnitus seem better. I am salivating a lot, but I hope this is due to my oral irritation, not Parkinson’s. The confounder is that I am simultaneously trying to increase the excretion of glyphosate and aluminum. I have also continued efforts to remediate my EMF exposure.

As Dr. Legos suggested, I am avoiding detox for a month. My initial research is that EDTA chelation for mercury can damage kidneys, and phosphatidylcholine is safer and works better.

Parting shot:

Read Mercola’s article critical of wisdom teeth removal HERE. This is the summary:

Estimates suggest 5 million people have their wisdom teeth removed each year, and more than half may be completely unnecessary. According to a 2005 Cochrane Review, “Prudent decision-making, with adherence to specified indicators for removal, may reduce the number of surgical procedures by 60% or more”

There are no scientifically proven health benefits to removing wisdom teeth that don’t cause problems

Many oral health experts recommend extracting wisdom teeth only if they’re growing in at an odd angle, causing pain, are affected by tooth decay, or if they’re impacting other teeth or causing inflammation

Extracting wisdom teeth is not a risk-free procedure, even if you’re young. Risks associated with the surgery include poor wound healing, infection, dry socket, pain, uncontrolled bleeding and nerve injury resulting in numbness around the mouth and face

Opioid addiction is another hidden risk, as most oral surgeons prescribe opioids for post-surgical pain. Research shows a combination of ibuprofen and acetaminophen works better than opioids for pain following wisdom tooth extraction, so avoid opioids at all costs

Root canals is another risky procedure that is largely driven by profit motives. Root canal-treated teeth often end up harboring harmful microbes, the toxic waste products of which can have systemic health impacts and contribute to a variety of chronic diseases, from chronic fatigue and chronic pain syndromes to heart disease and cancer

I think dentist make a lot of their money pulling wisdom teeth. I was told by several that mine would grow out of the sides of my gums and that I should have them removed. That was lie. They did not grow in that way. Even to this day when they find out I still have my wisdom teeth, they want to rip them out. Why?

Your essays on dentistry have prompted great conversations with friends. We ponder how many ‘drill and bills’ we experienced. We mourn the extraction of so many teeth – wisdom plus molars – because we were deemed to have small mouths. Such stupidity. We ponder if ‘dry mouth’ syndrome, especially at night, is related to weak jaws. I have no idea, but your essays have given true “food for thought” to chomp upon.

  • Avatar Duchess says:

Dr. Yoho, I had my mercury fillings pulled years ago (vanity) and replaced with the cosmetic amalgams…now I am wondering about root canals….what can be done other than pull them?
I am incredibly vain about my teeth (spent a fortune on them) and I can’t live with being toothless….
I don’t remember what they put up in the root canal….and I think I just had one redone because it was infected…and they put dead people’s cadaver up in it…
    Ugh.

So glad you had such great care and accomplished so much toward wellness. Thanks for sharing the story and exhibits. Twenty years plus ago I had my first non mercury on vacation in Califonia and then breakdowns w subsequent work were amalgams. I didnu2019t think they were still using mercury although absolutely they should have warned you about this common problem. It may not be relevant but mercury can hang out and is chelated out w expert help u2014 but it is thought that there is a small sub pop that has alleles preventing excretion even into the hair. I believe that Dr Buttar who died under suspect circumstances because he was a leader in the C19 movement of questioning u2014 was practicing heavy metal detoxing for vax injured kids and he warned about how the detoxing physician needed to be aware of hidden mercury before starting any oxygen therapy. Thatu2019s how I recall the info anyway from Dr Patrick Gentempou2019s vaccine series. Dr Buttaru2019s own child was injured and pulled through by his dad u2014 praise God u2014 but Buttar said for people w this allele ALl the heavy metals would come out first and only then would the hidden mercury emerge. The allele was associated w sub pop w superior IQ. On another dental note, did you know this year a big time report on fluoride hazards was issued by a professional group (gov I think) and the ADA asked that publication be suppressed? Bless you Dr YoHo. And thanks for the info. uD83DuDC9C

      • Avatar Fain Zimmerman says:

Can you write more about the detox with the Phosphatidy choline? Doublewood supplements offers it along with Phosphatidyl Serine. I had my 13 fillings removed by a holistic dentist many years ago. It took several months, as he only did a few at a time. My previous dentist kept saying the mercury was harmless! I knew better! I wonder if I should still do a detox?

        • Avatar Fain Zimmerman says:

I still have all my teeth, including wisdom teeth. They have the fillings, but all are still good! No root canals!
My dad had Parkinson’s and my mother dementia. They both had a lot of mercury fillings. My dad had lost a lot of teeth, but my mother had not.

          • Avatar Robert Yoho MD (ret) says:

Fain you shoukd consider replacement if your fillings are amalgams. This is not as urgent as getting rid of root canals.

        • Avatar Robert Yoho MD (ret) says:

Still learning about this. Don’t use EDTA for mercury.

  • Avatar I_Am_Unconconquerable says:

I was, and still am experiencing, health issues. For over two years no one could explain why. I searched for the answer relentlessly. One day, while reading the comments of a Substack about metals in vaccines, a gentleman by the name of Mark Kennard, wrote about how his health was damaged by metal implants. I had all the symptoms he described and I said, I have to talk to Mark. Little did I know he lives in New Zealand. That is how my story began. I have learned so much since then. I have had all the metal removed from my mouth, and am now focusing on getting the metal rods in my right leg removed. I asked the dentist that removed my root canals, “how many people do you believe have undiagnosed medical problems that can be traced directly to metal in their body?”. He said “hundreds of thousands, if not more”. I believe that is a very conservative guesstimate. This has become my current life focus. That dentists and doctors are getting away with this at no consequence is one of the biggest cover-ups in history.

  • Avatar InfoHog says:

Tinnitus, I wouldn’t expect too much there. Now, there apparently are different mechanisms (and characteristics) of tinnitus, and for some reason, everybody I have ever heard talking about it knew of only exactly one and was convinced it must be the only one.
Mine is a high-pitched, relatively clean single whistling tone (not white noise, or changing tone).

I got tinnitus when I had zero tooth fillings, playing drums in school. A high-pitched beeping would come, and go until the day after, a practise session – until it stopped going away…
I just find it interesting that the pitch of it is exactly that of the CRT of the TV I had back then, sitting in front of it often, with my home computer in the 90s…

But anway, it seems very much connected to hearing damage. I tend to get an additional pitch when not being careful enough with higher-end spectrum content on already slightly harsh headphones, or when I need to practise singing in too small a room.

  • Avatar Matt Cook says:

Thank you for the details. I think that mercury in fillings leaches out and there is probably no real reason to remove them if theyu2019ve been in place for more than 20 or so years.

Could you share the name and location where those hair transplant patients were treated? Or who you recommend?

I have all my wisdom teeth and they’re fine. Though I still have one filling that needs to be removed and one root canal. My fear of dentists aside, I’m going to have to bite that bullet soon if I want to stay healthy. BTW, have you looked into Thiamine (B1) therapy for Parkinson? It works to quell the shakes. When I read about it, I told my Pastor whose hands were shaking uncontrollably, he decided to give sublingual thiamine a try. His shaking noticeably stopped within days – there’s still some residual shaking, but now the communion wine stays in the cup. I am not a doctor (I’m just into researching natural remedies for what ails), but perhaps if you look into it, it might help.

I rememberni had my.amalgams takennout more than 10 yeqrs ago. I am.from south africa and it was hard to find a holistic dentist, althoughnkne tends to read about them in flashy magazines. My sister had a jeanetta procedure operation due to her serious neuralgia problems and i remember her going to a dentist in swellemdam asking him to remove her amalgams, but in the safest way.poaaible. The entitled, ignorant brute just shugged his pathetic shoulders and said “don’t tell me how to do my job”, and she ended up him removing her amalgams without even water flushing, without even an assistant, black lead amalgam sooth powder all over her mouth and nose area! From this experience i started to read a bit on correct procedures, contacted my dentist and as if he could do this job by doing it the decent way, and he said yes, i should just provide him with the right oxygen and he will provide the elastic koffer traps (little hanging suspension to catch up the lead!). It took a couple of sessions, after that he replace the amalgams with white filling. I had to get back a second time in a very short time to get a stronger white epoxy filling and the same erosing happened, due to high acid in my mouth (low ph). The good thing is though i rarely git tooth peiblem due to low ph, but last rime i we t back to havr all the white fillinga removed as well, had a 3d template of my teeth drawn up.and had it filled up woth porcelain, never been to a de tist for 10 years now! No need, low ph keeps rhe bugs away. And the porcelain sits like shit!

Im not sold. I have a mouthful of mercury fillings intact for almost 50 years and I donu2019t have any issues. My mother does too and sheu2019s in her 90s, intact. My father, deceased at 83, was a very ethical man and dentist. He loved treating generations of the working class families he treated for 50 years in his simple office. He only drove American cars like Pontiac and Buick because many of his patients worked in automotive factories.
I remember about 30 years ago he raved against dentists he considered quacks who were alarming people and charging and arm and a leg pulling out perfectly fine mercury filings.
I am not sold on this dentist in a hazmat suit. My father of blessed memory didnu2019t even wear gloves or a mask. He washed his hands a lot.

I havenu2019t been to a dentist (for me) in at least 2 decades. I do have some fillings and broken teeth… I always figured I would just get teeth pulled if needed instead of root canals (because Iu2019d read about how horrific root canals are), but what Iu2019ve read tries to scare you into implants saying your remaining teeth will drift. Is this really a concern?

    • Avatar Robert Yoho MD (ret) says:

Your intuition was far better than mine. Some people think teeth heal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrpNrJoH4wI&t=572s snd that they can promote it.

Teeth do drift if you lose one. Lagos told me about it.

I knew nothing about all this until 3 months ago. Now I believe the dentists and their practices are responsible for over 25 percent of US disease.

      • Avatar Michelle says:

Well, the fillings I do have are from the 70s and silver, so Iu2019m sure they are mercury… I donu2019t have the money to get them extracted, nor is there a biological dentist near me. I do really appreciate your sharing about having yours fixed in Mexico! I find that prospect really intriguing, but canu2019t afford that either. My daughter is nearing the age when wisdom teeth are typically removed, so thinking about the fight it is going to be with my husband to NOT do that.

  • Avatar Turfseer says:

Dr. Yoho I empathize with you for I too now have a tremor. My primary care doctor diagnosed it as a basic u201Cessential tremoru201D and I await my November appointment with a neurologist (I couldnu2019t get one sooner). Iu2019m not optimistic because the cause can be a million different things. I did have my mercury amalgam fillings removed a while ago.

I also have diabetes for six years now and my A1C has gone up in the last year from the 6u2019s to the 7u2019s. I have tried to avoid medication but now my endocrinologist is recommending it. My dilemma is that taking medication is like substituting one poison for another. But the prospect of walking around with high blood sugar numbers alarms me (six years ago I was almost at 14 A1C). I have tried to lower my numbers via diet and herbs but now maybe the honeymoon period is over. Any comments?

    Hey Dr. Yoho,
Nice article. It is good to see you taking your dental health into account for optimal health and vitality.
There are many good dentists in the states that specialize in safe mercury replacements and chelation. I was one of them and was trained by Dr. Huggins and many others. The IAOMT organization is a great place to start. Look for a dentist especially trained in safe mercury replacements. I did not trust Mexican dentistry but I know the reasons you chose this route.
I would not use the Biocomp Laboratory for your dental material testing. It is wrong to many times.
I used OSR1 for excellent chelation instead of the useless EDTA. I have since retired and had a book, Holistic Dental Care, published that summarizes the ways dental health can effect your whole body.
I will pray for you and your recovery.
    Blessings

I had TWO root canals done about 2 years AFTER I had beautiful porcelain veneers installed. Same tooth on opposite sides became infected (I now fully understand why people take painkillers) about 6 months apart from one another. I have heard endodontist are making a killing since veneers have come on the market. Before that I had ZERO root canals. I did go to a holistic endodontist, was give vitamin C intravenously and he had a better system of cleaning and HOPEFULLY sterilizing that two bad teeth. But who knows really. So far no health issues. My VANITY got me into this situation – the veneers LOOK great, but honestly – I would not consent to this expensive procedure knowing what I now know. Not worth the risk.

  • Avatar George says:

Had my wisdom teeth removed by an oral surgeon about 45 years ago. As I recall, the two lower ones were sideways and just breaking the gum surface pushing against my back molars. The two lowers were cut out and two uppers were pulled. About 4 mg of Valium were injected and I slept through the entire process. If they, my wisdom teeth, had they come in straight I would have kept them. X-Rays from both my dentist and the surgeon confirmed the state of my wisdom teeth prior to the procedure.

    Also:
I just had my teeth clean about a month ago. Based on one of your previous posts, I asked my dentist how many amalgam fillings remained. He checked twice and said they were all gone. Then told me about how dentists were charging about $900/tooth to replace amalgam fillings and that they were using negative pressure rooms to perform that procedure. He also stated that all 3,000 dentist in the State were tested yearly for mercury when it became known that amalgam was a heath issue. He said that the tests for all dentists were non detect for mercury over all years tests were conducted. I have used this dentist for about 30 years and only questioned his work once that resulted in having to spend an additional $1,500 with an endodontist to correct a root canal.

    • Avatar Robert Yoho MD (ret) says:

If you believe dentists are all tested you also believe in the tooth fairy. 100 million amalgams are still being inserted each year per references in my posts. Endodontists should not exist, for what they do is wrong. The man who invented the field repudiated it. See Root Canal Coverup by Meinig

I took it slow and monitored my kidney markers and had no ill effects. I am sure you have heavily investigated what is safe for you but thought I would mention my experience with it.

Dr., I shopped for dentists who know how to remove amalgams correctly. I am in Mississippi (CA expat) and found a private establishment on the Gulf Coast run by a young dentist who calls his business Mississippi Dental Arts. They had state of the art equipment and impressive consultation. One of my two root canals are a mess and will be pulled. I will decline the bone graft and implant. Some of my bad ones are 2nd restorations with white fillings that separated and have decay under there. He says he has a better way of making them stay sealed. Anyway, it will cost me 4-5 k$ and 4 days in the chair.
I also got my results from my heavy metals test. Let me know if you want to see it.

    • Avatar Robert Yoho MD (ret) says:

Sure post all this. Bone grafts help and I’m hearing that zirconia implants work. Dr. Gammal may not agree. From what I’ve read all root canals must be removed if you value your health.

What I wasn’t told was there was NO JAW BONE LEFT. Their removal was a horror story. The new lower denture didn’t fit, the Red Dye burnt my mouth. Then he ground down the metal-filled molars on top to try and get them to fit. Still didn’t fit. And he said no lab makes clear gum dentures. Took 2 years to find one, but the denture won’t adhere, as there is No bone for them to adhere to. So they just sit on the frontal area. They allow me to talk clearly, and the facial area not to cave in. That is all they are good for.

Had old root canal yanked this morning. Second molar upper right. Cap hard to remove and tooth was made into three pieces for extraction. Dr. confirmed that it was in nasty shape. Leaking infection basically. I’m glad I found Dr. Yoho’s podcasts because I already felt my amalgams are or will cause health problems but I never worred about the two root canals. The 3 other teeth on that side with older amalgams and composite restorations were nasty underneath and full of decay. Big crevices. So wondering is my composite restorations with no root canals are bad underneath and if so, how can I correct this?!!

A dentist will see it and I saw it clearly on the excellent pics they showed me. I learned lots of compsites fail because they are not done right (wrong shape/edges roll up/decay begins easily in cracks) but the materials they use now are better than 20 years ago. I am paying about $375 per tooth to remove old amalgams and composite then replace properly.
